Make your bake sale a piece of cake
Who doesn’t love a bake sale?
They’re a fun, delicious, sociable way to raise money
for a good cause.
Here are our top tips:
- Plan your date and venue.
- Consider the logistics.
- Will the date clash with another popular event?
- Will there be storage for baked goods at the venue?
- Decide who your bakers will be (is baking open to all or by invite only)?
- Think about bestsellers: brownies, biscuits, tray bakes, cupcakes are always popular and are easier to serve than sliced cakes.
- Can bakers easily unload on the day?
- Is access suitable for the people attending?
- Who will set-up before and clean up after the event?
- How will you display prices, allergy advice and ingredients?
- Can you increase your takings by offering drinks?
- Be prepared for people who can’t attend to contribute another way.
Spice things up with your own Bake Off or Cupcake Wars. Ask contestants to pay to enter the competition. Have categories (Best Kid’s Cake, Best Fruitcake…) to encourage multiple entries.
Spread the word! Social media could have been invented for bake sales. School groups, community pages and town pages are the perfect place to advertise a bake sale. Get creative with your posts, tell people you are raising money for storybooks for children in need and ask them to share your post. Remember to include the date, time, and venue and a link to Kashfi’s Children.
