Robert Ornstein was an internationally renowned psychologist and author of more than 20 books including the Psychology of Consciousness, Multimind, and The Roots of the Self, Robert Ornstein was considered one of the foremost experts on the brain. Perhaps best known for his pioneering research on the bilateral specialization of the brain, he continually emphasized the necessity of “conscious evolution” to meet the challenges of the 21st century. He taught at Stanford University, Harvard University and UCSF and was president of educational non-profit The Institute for the Study of Human Knowledge from its founding in 1969 until his death in December of 2018. His final work, God 4.0 draws on the modern research—from neuropsychology and religion, to evolutionary psychology, anthropology, archeology, and genetics to find explanations for the near ubiquity of spirituality in humanity’s history.
